Important Accomplishments:
First African American woman to ever be addmitted into an astsonaut training program. An acadamey was named after her because of her works! How would you like it if that happened to you? That would be pretty cool!

Important facts:

  • The first African American woman to get trained as an astronaut in an astronaut training program!

  • After graduation, she entered Cornell University Medical College to work for a degree. That was a pretty good college, ahe must have really wanted that degree! And she really deserves it! She worked hard to get into that college!

  • Mae won the 1988 Essence Science and Technology Award, the Ebony Black Achievment Award in 1992, and a Montgomery Fellowship from Dartmouth College in 1993. That's a lot of awards!! She must have been an important person to win all those awards!

  • After about a year of training, she became an astronaut with a job of being responsible for running crew related scientific experiments on the space shuttle. What an important job!! She must have so proud of herself when she first got that job!!

  • While in high school, her parents encouraged her to find her special talents and hobbies, and found her talents and hobbies by spending a lot of time in the library reading about science and especialy astronomy which made her find her dream of being an astonaut.

The reason our lives are better today because of Mae Jemison because:
Mae Jemison made people think differently about African Americans and took chances. And now because of Mae, many African Americans are now astronauts because of what she did.
